| Quote: | | This book is a group of Welsh/British tales related to Arthurian legend. |
- Target completion date: 11/3/2010
- Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/5160
- Type of proof-listening required:
Standard Proof-listening
-- Do the intro and disclaimer match the instructions in the first post of the project thread?
-- Are there any long silences or pauses that ought to be edited out? If so, note the time.
-- Are there any repeats, or serious stumbles that ought to be edited out? If so, note the words and the time.
-- Is there excessive background noise, a constant hiss or buzz that detracts from the reading?
-- Did you need to turn your volume up unusually high to listen to the recording? (Or did you find the recording too loud?)
-- Are the correct closing words used at the end of the recording, as per the first post of the project thread?
-- Are there 5 seconds of silence (10 if the recording is more than 30 minutes long) at the end of the file?
IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project will be opened up to a group project as soon as a Book Coordinator can be found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to have it re-instated).
MAGIC WINDOW:
(BC admin)
- The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:

- If you wish, say:
"Recording by Y Dynion Mwyn"
- Say:
"The Mabinogion, by Anonymous. [Translated by [Lady Charlotte Elizabeth Guest]. [Chapter]"
For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer: - "Chapter [number] of [The Mabinogion]. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain.
- If you wish, say:
"Recording by Y Dynion Mwyn"
- Say:
"The Mabinogion, by Anonymous. [Translated by [Lady Charlotte Elizabeth Guest]]. [Chapter]"
End of recording- At the end of the section, say:
“End of [Chapter]"
- If you wish, say:
"Recording by [Y Dynion Mwyn, , www DOT d-y-n-i-o-n-m-w-y-n DOT net"
- At the end of the book, say (in addition):

OK - you are all set up.
As a soloist, you are your own book coordinator (BC), so you'll need to look after the magic window. I will PM you your user name and password. Instructions for the magic window are here: http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dt724vw_3gtjj3b Normally, I'd put in the first few section titles to get you going, but I'm not sure how you intend to divide it, since there are more than 9 stories. See what you can do and holler if you need help.
I've cleaned up a few things in your top post, so please check the file name and ID3 tags as you go. Mainly I changed the author from Guest to Anonymous, made the file name all lower case, and dropped the "the". For the text source, we always link to the book's main Gutenberg page, rather than a specific format, since it's a more permanent link.
You'll need to get a proof listener (PL'er), so I'll leave us in the Launch Pad for a day or two and see if one comes along.
I will be lurking in the thread, so you can either post or PM me if you need help with anything. Have fun! |

| Oops - forgot... you'll also need to note the type of proof-listening you want (standard, word-perfect, etc). See here for definitions and then copy and paste the one you want into your top post. |

I don't know what those listening types are nor did I see them in the FAQ _________________ -------------------------------

Oops... ok, I didn't see you link when I first read your post, so now I understand... is there any particular reason I should select one type or another? I would like to be easy on my listeners, after all, they too are human and volunteering their time.
I learned to turn up the volume, so now I'm 8/10ths volume instead of 5/10ths volume. I'll try my introduction and please feed back any comments to me. I'll try to do the ID tags right this time. Please forgive me if I goof. _________________ -------------------------------

Exactly right! Most people choose standard, so the PL'er does not have to follow along with the text and can therefore PL in the car, at the gym, etc.
Some people want word-perfect PL'ing (that is, proofing against the text) for things that are really important to them, like religious texts. Personally, I prefer not to have the PL'er follow along with the text because I want to simulate the experience of the final end user. I've seen it happen that a passage is only understandable because the PL'er is following along, and when you listen without the text in front of you it makes no sense. That's just my opinion, though - bottom line is that standard is easiest to do and therefore easiest for you to recruit someone. _________________ Please help with the November clean-up! |

How do I ask the vast number of volunteers how to be sure I am pronouncing the Welsh words correctly? _________________ -------------------------------

I'd like to apply for the dedicated prooflisteners post. As far as I see it's not taken yet.

The best way to do it is for you to post a list of all the words you're not sure of before you start (or those for the first, say, quarter or third of the project, if it's too big for you to scan ahead through the whole thing in one go, then repeat) in the 'Need help? Got advice?' forum.
Then someone can record them for you and post a link to the file for you to listen. That someone in this case may well be me - but you never know who may be hovering with some Welsh up their sleeve!

Thanks, everyone. I've added Kristine as DPL and moved us to Going Solo.
Not sure about the lines in the magic window... someone must have added a few more for you. Do you think 13 is the final number? If so, I'll remove the extras.
ETA: nevermind - I just saw your PM. We'll get it sorted out. _________________ Please help with the November clean-up! |
