This project is complete, and all audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/robinson-crusoe-by-daniel-defoe/
Welcome to the DISCUSSION FORUM for Daniel Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe."
To join in just click "POST A REPLY" and leave a comment. Discussion begins on page 5 with a message from me about some interesting parallels between Crusoe and Friday's relationship and Huck and Jim's in Mark Twain's "Hucklebery Finn."
We used this same forum to plan the recording, but now it's been "re-purposed" so that listeners can talk about the book with the reader (me, Denny Mike) serving as moderator. Enjoy!

Hello, friends at LibriVox, and lovers of Defoe:
I am just back from a 10-day vacation (the longest in a dozen years) in Puerto Rico.
I'm picking up my Logitech USB Desktop Mike today, and should start recording tomorrow on my Mac iBook G4. If anyone knows the tricks of making this mike work with Audacity, PLEASE contact me.

Dennis,
I found your thread ... You might want to post your progress here so we can keep it all in one place. Glad you're back.. hope you had a nice vacation =)
There are a couple of places where you can get technical help.. though, we're in the middle or reorganizing so don't be surprised if stuff gets moved around on you.
Here is one specifically on working with a Mac:
http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=385
And there are several threads going in this Forum regarding recording help:

I hope you'll find what you're looking for there =) _________________ Multiple projects lead to multiple successes!

Defoe was a remarkable writer, and single-handedly forged an opening for English fiction novels by never signing his name to his major works and posing as if HE were indeed Robinson Crusoe or Captain Singleton (now there's an adventure!) or even Moll Flanders or Roxanna (all four of these books were written in a span of as many years)! He even pretended he lived through the plague and wrote with such convincing detail that his Journal of the Plague Years is still considered as eyewitness testimony by many.
Many of his writings can ONLY be found through Gutenberg, by the way.
Given that getting spoken text to the many is LibriVox's goal, Crusoe is the place to start, but I would love to work with others on a chapter-by-chapter version of Captain Singleton or Moll Flanders.

[Moved from new thread]
| Dsayers wrote: | I just finished the final edit on Ch 1 of Crusoe. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to work on nine short poems from Blake's Songs of Innocence and Experience with LibraryLady! It helped me sharpen my production skills to take each of them through a full cycle of reading/editing/mp3 conversion/IDing, etc.
If anyone wishes to listen to Chapter 1 to hear if it passes muster, please let me know.

Do you need server space to put your files to allow people to listen to them until they're finished and cataloged? I wouldn't mind letting you use some of mine. |

Friends: I am hoping that some of you will listen to the first chapter that I recorded for Defoe's Crusoe.
You will notice that there is a bird chirping in the background now and again ... I don't want to chase them away from the feeder I stock outside my office window!
But other than that ... is this adequate or acceptable for the road ahead? I'm already through Chapter 4 (of 20) so let me know if I'm entirely off-base.

Dennis, I'm listening to your chapter right now... it sounds great! Your voice is very clear and easy to hear. You're definitely on the right track. Good job! =)
We can handle your files in a couple of ways. 1) You can hold them all until you are finished with the project. Then send them to me all at once; or 2) Post them in this thread using the YouSendIt service just as you have for this chapter. I would then pick them up and store them for you on my server.
Either way is fine with me... it's up to you, just let me know what you prefer =) _________________ Multiple projects lead to multiple successes!

... for me to send you the yousendit codes directly to an email address?
I like the idea of sending things off as soon as they are completed, but now I'm sending them to myself, then copying the code, then posting the code on the LV system. If possible, I wonder if it'd be okay to just send them to an email address.

Dennis,
You are more than welcome to send them to my email address: betsie@betsie.info ... I won't be able to listen to every chapter as you finish them, but I'll store them here: http://betsie.info/librivox/crusoe/ so that anyone can listen to them until they are cataloged.
