Re: [SOLO] Mrs Dalloway (Version 2) by Virginia Woolf-mas

Thanks Peter! It's probably going to go a bit slower for the next few months as I've mostly been doing it on weekends, and with things opening up more in the UK, and a wedding coming up, my weekends are looking a bit busier! My initial aim of July may have been quite ambitious! I will of course mak...

Re: [SOLO] Mrs Dalloway (Version 2) by Virginia Woolf-mas

Four more sections uploaded - nearly halfway there! Sections 11 to 14 are all PL OK. What a beautifully nuanced reading. I especially enjoyed hearing for myself the voice like 'an ancient spring' of the 'battered old woman with her hand exposed for coppers', and the actual plaintive note of Rezia's...

Re: [SOLO] Some Do Not... - dc

Thanks! In the meantime I listened to all the recorded sections again and really enjoyed them. Like reading a book for the second time, one makes new discoveries. :) Methinks you must be a glutton for punishment! That said, I agree heartily that this is a book that rewards re-reading. So much of it...

Re: [SOLO] Some Do Not... - dc

Forgot to mention I uploaded section 08. Writing this from phone late at night and don’t have URL handy, but it’s in MW. Realised today section 08 may contain errors if, as I think I may have done, I read “HM” several times as “Her Majesty’s” rather than as “His Majesty’s” (which would have been ap...

Re: [SOLO] Some Do Not... - dc

Thank you for adding the list of characters! Now I've a reference I can go back to. Can you please add the characters of Section 6 who were reprehensible but should be captured, in case they reappear. PL of Section 7 is okay. I found the turn-of-events so surprising, I "rewound" to make sure I hadn...

Re: [SOLO] Some Do Not... - dc

PL of section 6 is fine. I found the frank viciousness of the gender politics through the golf sequence quite stunning. On women's rights, we still don't seem to have progressed all that far even a century later. Already there are hints here of an hysterical edge creeping into the novel, I think. I...

Re: [SOLO] Some Do Not... - dc

It's so much easier to go back in a real book when characters get too many. Sometimes I even keep a list of characters. I find it's much harder with an e-book and I haven't found a good solution for an audio book. :-/ You raise a good point. For this novel, and others in the tetralogy, it may be wo...

Re: [SOLO] Some Do Not... - dc

I just uploaded section 04: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/somedonot_04_ford_128kb.mp3 (19:03) I remember the first time I read this scene to myself I felt rather confused by the relatively large number of characters introduced, the purpose of whose presence wasn't at all clear to me. It bec...

Re: [SOLO] Some Do Not... - dc

Glad to be able to discover another novel by FMF. I was a bit apprehensive if we were getting into a very dark tale when I read the summary but the first chapter was alright. Thanks Susanne. I wonder if I have overplayed the darkness. Will think about this more as we proceed. As I recall, I wrote t...
