Re: Audacity Waveform (dB)

No, no other major problems. The new installation forgot some of my setup choices (I had to delete an extra toolbar, and uninstalled a lot of plug-ins that I don't use). However, I don't use any external plug-ins; a couple of others here have reported that the new version can't handle the Nyquist pl...

Audacity Waveform (dB)

Before the recent Audacity update, I would switch to Waveform (dB) (in the panel to the left of the sonogram) to spot noise which didn't show in the normal display. The new version of Audacity doesn't show a button for Waveform (dB) in the panel. I looked on the Audacity forum. Someone had mentioned...

Re: Call me Rick

Hello, Rick; welcome to LibriVox. It's a friendly and (almost always!) good-mannered community. You can find plenty of help, either through the wiki pages (there are links at the top of the main forum page), or simply by asking in the Help Needed forum towards the bottom of the main page. There are ...

Re: New here...Hi!

Hello, Shi, welcome to LibriVox. It's a helpful and friendly community. You just need to put a sample in the Listeners Wanted forum, so we can make sure that your recording setup fits our needs (it's mainly to do with volume and technical stuff like bit rate ... once that's defined in your editing p...

Re: [FULL][DR]The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes -ke

I'm afraid this is a quirk of the way the magic window is arranged. The story itself is still marked as open, because we're waiting on one of the character parts to be completed (Dr Watson). All of the character parts in this project have been recorded or (in the case of Watson) marked as assigned. ...

Re: Narration (parentheses?) To Speak or Not to Speak?

Even within a single work, you may use tone or brackets variably. In my current solo, I'll read short parenthetical pieces with a different tone, but if they're more than a line or so long, or are not very related to the context, I'll bracket them (I say "note" .... "end note"). I tend to feel that ...

Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread

Fritz, I've put Audacity 2.2.1 on a cloud storage site: https://www.mediafire.com/file/jhw1w0yjvsrdis6/audacity-win-2.2.1.exe/file

It's over 22 Mb, but uploaded very quickly, so it may download quickly, too.

That's the version I'm using at the moment.

Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread

It might be simplest to re-install the earlier Audacity version and keep an eye on their forums for the problem to be sorted.

Re: [SOLO] London Labour etc., Vol 1 -Mayhew-ans

Gill, I've found out what's happened. Some time ago, around the time you started on volume two, I realised that I had labelled my files as "londonlabour_ ..." instead of "londonlabour1_..." I uploaded renamed files, but the old ones are still linked to the MW. I'll check the files shortly and will a...

Re: Invitation to English Pronunciation Survey

Thank you, Noriko-san; It came to me just now that I still use "GA-ridge" occasionally ... when I talk about a "bus garage". Odd. It seems to be something to do with rhythm and tone: "BUS gar-ridge" sounds better than "bus GA-rahzh" or "bus gar-RAHZH" ... so the most important part of the phrase get...

Re: [SOLO] London Labour etc., Vol 1 -Mayhew-ans

And I've just noticed your note about the click in "uncertain" ... I've no idea why I didn't see it earlier.

I couldn't hear it, but I did just edit out something that looked like a click on the sonogram and re-upload. The edit is at 43.49.

My apologies,

Re: Invitation to English Pronunciation Survey

Noriko-san; I suppose that I'm used to recorder programs which display a moving indicator to show input volume. It was a bit disconcerting to see nothing happening on-screen when I spoke. I've done the three blocks of recordings. When I first encountered the second half of the first block, I wasn't ...

Re: Invitation to English Pronunciation Survey

Ava, how did you get the survey to work under Firefox? When I got to the first section ("I am originally from ..."), the record button did not start a recording. I don't know how to set specific microphone permissions in Firefox, which may be the problem. EDIT: I've just realised that the online rec...
