I read at about 140 words per minute. It takes me about 5-6 hours of work to get one finished your of audio. Hope this helps.

The sharp S sounds you hear are called "sibilance" - if you google for that term and how to correct it, you'll find some mic technique videos, some mouth training exercises, and some way to reduce it with software.

If you use the app called LibriVox (which is not sponsored by LibriVox), it will play 1 chapter after the other. It also strips a few seconds from the front of each chapter so most of the disclaimer is cut off. I don’t know if that is true for all the books or just ones I have been listening to late...
