Re: photos in the public domain

Searching for "alcohol" and "brain" I couldn't find anything on that site ... there's only one image when searching for alcoholism! But if you do a generalised google search for "images brain alcoholism", you get quite a lot of images, which you'd have to search through for PD ones, of course: https...

Re: Advice for readers outside the USA

My impression is that it would have been in the original text; it's not simply a spelling error. Instead of naming two different locations on a sail (the front and back of the bottom edge), the same location was named twice.

Re: Advice for readers outside the USA

I do wish that there could be an international agreement on copyright!

.... at least, as long as it works well for us.

Advice for readers outside the USA

I've just spent an hour recording (and a few hours editing) a chapter on sailing a small boat, from a book by A. Hyatt Verrill, which I found on Gutenberg. I thought it would make a good piece for our non-fiction collection. So, when I had finished, I started making a note of the various details, re...

Re: Timeless Classics for Grades 9 through 12 (1993)

Kevin, I'll PM you my full list, but here are the extracted ten (now eleven) favourites. The first four are "hard" SF, the other six, soft SF or fantasy. I'm not particularly knowledgeable or widely read; these are books that I either have now or have owned in the past .... and that I'd lend to a fr...

Re: Timeless Classics for Grades 9 through 12 (1993)

I was surprised to find that I had read any of them, as my tastes in fiction have been more into fantasy and science fiction for most of my life. Lord of the Flies - for an examination, not by choice .. I'd never read it again I Claudius - for pleasure Brave New World - out of curiosity ... didn't e...

Re: Desire of Ages missing sound

The first two chapters seem okay, played through the LV links, but 59 is certainly empty. I don't know about the others yet. https://librivox.org/the-desire-of-ages-by-ellen-g-white/ There were some changes made in October last year: https://forum.librivox.org/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=76827&p=1639026&hi...

Re: The Advantage Of Multiple Versions

I've commented the following stories on that site: Elfwater, The Ignoble, The Case of Mrs Hillier, Lost in a Pyramid, and The Great Stone Face. I've used this line, or something like it: This story is from the free, public domain LibriVox recording of the Norman Douglas collection, available at http...

Re: The Advantage Of Multiple Versions

Louise, I have a youtube account. If you'll point me to your story there, I can leave a comment that it's taken from Librivox and is available for free from here.

Re: Need help - lost sound

Now go to one of the open projects in one of the Readers Wanted areas and look at the first post. There will be a link to the LibriVox uploader. Click on the link, and choose "xx-nonproject - xx-nonproject" as "MC" ... near the bottom of the pull-down list. Upload your zip file. When the upload is c...

Re: Need help - lost sound

In Audacity, do you have the Device toolbar displayed? (look under View/Toolbars). This will show you where Audacity is taking its input from and output to. Is it sending sound to the right place? Also, at the left end of the sonogram for your current recording, there's a little box of controls. The...

Thanks, Lynnet; I'm tempted to take on the whole book. I only bumped into it because I was following up some wikipedia links about platinum salt photography.
