Re: Is a 19th Century facsimile in the PD?

Thanks, everyone; I may go for the google document instead of buying the facsimile if the book is not as interesting as I'd hoped.
I do like to have a paper copy of books I enjoy. We'll see.

I coudn't find a scan on archive.org.

Is a 19th Century facsimile in the PD?

I've been reading "Dirty Old London - the Victorian Fight Against Filth" (Lee Jackson, pub 2014). To quote a fragment: "John Hollingshead conducted a lengthy exploration of 'underground London' in 1860, before the completion of Bazalgette's project. He made inquiries of the [Metropolitan Board of Wo...

Re: Weekly/Fortnightly Poetry Suggestions

A possible weekly poem? GAYLY SOUNDS THE CASTANET. (MALTESE AIR.) Gayly sounds the castanet, Beating time to bounding feet, When, after daylight's golden set, Maids and youths by moonlight meet. Oh, then, how sweet to move Thro' all that maze of mirth, Led by light from eyes we love Beyond all eyes ...

Re: Do prose poems go in the short poetry collections or the short fiction collections?

Archy and Mehitabel by Don Marquis is generally considered poetry, despite very few of the poems having rhyme or metre. I'd go for calling something poetry if the author/publisher calls it poetry.

Thanks, Tomas; I've been through your recording; Watson sounds fine. A few very minor word changes that don't matter, but could you edit these two fragments, please? 9.55 "said Holmes suavely" .... Could you read that as "SWAH-vlee", please? 15.02 “You’re angry, Robert,” said she. “Well, I guess you...

Welcome to LibriVox, Vinayak. Feel free to ask questions; we've all had to go through the early stages of learning to use the system. Re: New feature suggestion: add "rating" from external website, for browsing the catalog

I think that's the way to look at it; what's the positive advantage? The advantage of not allowing negative criticism in the LV forum is that volunteers are not discoouraged, which is in line with our main reason for existence. The advantage of allowing negative criticism is that it helps listeners ...

Re: Hello from India!

Hello, Hiranmayi; welcome to our site. You can always ask, if you find something you don't understand. Some of the initial requests that we make may seem a bit arbitrary, but they all have a reason. The "test" recording that you'll have been asked for is not to allow your voice to be judged, but to ...
