Re: [CHINA/LIT] The Dream of the Red Chamber II by Cao - availle

This is section 47 for PL: https://librivox.org/uploads/availle/dreamredchamber2_47_cao_128kb.mp3 [26:16] notes: - @4:45, should be "lien" instead of "lieu"; - @5:29, should be "You" instead of "Tso"; - @20:45, "the word" should better be inserted before the word "'light'", and the word "be" be inse...

Re: [SOLO] English and Cantonese Dictionary, by John Chalmers - availle

Hi Larry, As I have said before, there is no need for you to rush and to PL my work right after I have uploaded them. Just check out my post whenever you feel like it. At the moment, I am trying to maintain a schedule of finishing one section per day as long as my determination still holds. One part...

Re: [SOLO] English and Cantonese Dictionary, by John Chalmers - availle

Thanks for the advice, I would like to add that, this particular recording involves a more than usual share of pauses and silent intervals, thus making the ambient noise problem more acute. As for padding my room etc...it is further unfortunate that this is not even my place, and I cannot do much to...

Re: [SOLO] English and Cantonese Dictionary, by John Chalmers - availle

Hi Larry, I am sorry to hear that, hope that your wife will get well soon. Just put your mind at ease, and don't worry about PLing my recordings. There is no rush for you. I will continue to upload the recordings as far as I can, but listen to them only when you are free and feel like it. If in the ...

Re: ~[SOLO] English and Cantonese Dictionary, by John Chalmers - availle

There are new things to learn every day! I will surely take time to read carefully the link for being a BC. But in the meantime, I would like to proceed as far as I know how, and to tidy up things while I am stumbling along and to deal with any unforeseen problems as may arise in due course. Stay tu...

Re: ~[SOLO] English and Cantonese Dictionary, by John Chalmers - availle

Thanks for your reply. As I have proposed, I would prefer the 20-min. per section option due to a concern of not letting the list of contents too long. Another advantage is that I can eliminate half the occasions of repeating the mandatory preamble for each of the sections, which may be tedious for ...

Re: [SOLO] English and Cantonese Dictionary, by John Chalmers

Thanks for your comments. Actually I have not also mentioned another reason for my intention in engaging in this project: One important target audience of this project is for people like myself, who is a native Cantonese and with English as a second language. When I first stumble upon this book, I r...

Re: New Project: English and Cantonese Dictionary, by John Chalmers

Thanks for silverquill and annise for your quick response, Yes, as a full run of 34 hours in one project seems a bit long, but in view of the continuous and integral nature of a dictionary, it seems that the most satisfactory result will be as a single unit. BTW, I just prepare a tentative division ...

Re: New Project: English and Cantonese Dictionary, by John Chalmers

Thanks for the comments and advice. My case for embarking on this project is this: 1. There is an absolute dearth of such similar project as far as I am aware of; 2. I guess Cantonese is spoken by nearly 100 million people in the world, and I think that it is worth letting English speaking people to...
