Re: [Solo] The Letters of Madame de Sévigné by Marie de Rabutin-Chantal - dl

... According to Wikipedia, Madame de Sévigné's letters are our principal source for the famous suicide of Vatel. Alhough I haven't been to Versailles, I did visit the wonderful Vaux le Viscomte where Vatel oversaw the magnificent reception for Louis XIV which led to Fouquet's downfall. By the way,...

Re: Maxims by François duc de La Rochefoucauld

I warmly second this suggestion. There is a recording of a German edition of the Maxims but what a shame that none of our Francophone Librivoxers have recorded it. If I weren't busy, I'd like to have a go at the English language edition referenced in the above post so I have to leave this gem to som...

This is a section that could have done with even more footnotes - I spent some enjoyable time researching the personalities. I think I perceived a quotation from Molière too.

Re: [Solo] The Letters of Madame de Sévigné by Marie de Rabutin-Chantal - dl

Pam, sorry to inflict this upon you but I was dissatisfied with the sound quality of Section 00 (recorded early in the morning when my allergies were at their most rampant) so I re-recorded it tonight - for your PLing pleasure. David, you will notice that the recording time of Section 00 i...

Section 9 is PL OK.

You make the politics almost lucid to me but, if my mind wanders for a moment, I'm lost.

Re: Banned books and authors (in Australia especially)

Not before, say, 1972, when a Labor government was finally elected after more than two decades of conservative rule. Was a very prudish old place back in the day. But since then, yes, rather liberal, as you say.

Needless to say, I'm an Australian.
It was Time.

Re: What's a Book You Wish Was in the Public Domain?

I liked the suggestion of the poems of W. H. Auden - "O Unicorn among the cedars, To whom no magic charm can lead us .... " Some more favourites (just to get you started) Dylan Thomas - "Deep with the first dead lies London's daughter,. Robed in the long friends,. The grains beyond age.... Cavafy -"...

Looks like it's time to catalog this one. Weekends are a busy time at Archive so it may take a bit of time.
Thanks Dave. After 12? months, I think Henry can wait.

Best,
