Re: OPEN [DR] A Study in Scarlet by Doyle - thw

They're very short recordings. I'll be editing Chapter seven tomorrow.

Re: Pronunciation help: all languages

Could someone speak the following French line for me, please? It's from a Sherlock Holmes story.
Un sot trouve toujours un plus sot qui l'admire.
Thanks,
Peter

Re: Banned sound effects

I see; I can understand why the decision was made. But it does seem like an over-reaction to me.

Thanks for your investigation, Tricia.

Re: Banned sound effects

Part of my difficulty with this comes from my feeling that the decision was made without general discussion. Someone .. or ones ... changed a fluid situation into a rigid one without asking the certainly hundreds (and possibly thousands) of active members of the forum who would be effected.

Re: Slips of the tongue

Old tongue twister: I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's son and I'll go on plucking pheasants till the pheasant plucking's done.

Too easy to switch similar sounds and get an unintended meaning. Designed to lubricate the tongue.

Re: Banned sound effects

But it's clear from that thread that it was primarily a matter of avoiding copyright problems with the sound effect. Beyond that, it seems just a matter of whether the listener preferred the recording with or without the effect. Opinion, not a rule chiselled into the stones underpinning the structur...

Banned sound effects

I'm curious; when and why were sound effects and background sound banned in LibriVox recordings? I know that background sound was acceptable in 2006, as I was interviewed on-site ("spotlight on ...") and Starlite asked whether I had ever used it.

Re: OPEN [DR] A Study in Scarlet by Doyle - thw

And, David, if you're playing with the highlights, there were a couple missing in Chapter One. They probably don't need touching, though, as you're the only one that needs to be aware of them. DR. WATSON: “How on earth did you know that?” I asked in astonishment. SHERLOCK HOLMES: “Never mind,” [need...

Re: OPEN [DR] A Study in Scarlet by Doyle - thw

Thanks, Jasna; Edited chapters 3 and 4 of Holmes's voice have been uploaded. ** Holmes_1_03 Space between two lines missing at ~ 03:38, between "No data yet" and "It is a capital mistake to theorize." [silence added] ~07:28 Repetition: "It's a very bad definition, but but it does apply..." ["but" de...

Re: SOLO London Labour Volume III -ans

It's this business of taking consequences into consideration when making choices which needs to be built in at a very deep level. It's very close to the Golden Rule. But you're right about Mayhew's interviewees; they're damned by their past actions and it's near-impossible to get out of the rut, no ...
