If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Hmmm.

The PG-AU site doesn't state clearly what edition was used for the text. We would only be able to use text from the 1925 or 1919 editions. (Australia copyright goes by death date of the author, whereas the US goes by publication year.)

Since the PG-AU text lists older editions and has images of the covers of later editions, I don't think they used the earliest editions. Therefore, I don't think this is clearly PD in the USA and can't be used.

I did a search at Archive and HathiTrust for both "Erle Cox" and "The Argus" to try to find a 1925-or-earlier text, but didn't find anything. :?

:(

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Thank you for researching. I'm sorry I thought it was in public domain here too. It is such a good book.

I found this short novel in its original serialized form in the 'Argus,' a Melbourne newspaper. With a little patience, the reader might use this text, if approved. It is not an easy read, perhaps, because of the digitization, but it is something.

I think the novel was released in weekly bits through 1919.

Here is the first chapter: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/1459116?browse=ndp%3Abrowse%2Ftitle%2FA%2Ftitle%2F13%2F1919%2F04%2F19%2Fpage%2F404399%2Farticle%2F1459116

Ooo! If one could gather all the parts into one file, that would work perfectly!

I could try to do so, if the reader cannot. (I did not check to see that all the segments were scanned.)

Great!

It would be good to combine all the chapter scans into one document to make it easier for anyone who wants to look at the text, but this is sufficient to record from.

I'll move this back to the Launch Pad!
