The Religion of the Plain Main by Robert Hugh Benson (1871 - 1914).

Robert Hugh Benson discusses the journey of a hypothetical ordinary man to the Catholic Faith, explaining how he decides to embrace it to an audience largely composed of Anglicans and other Protestants. ( Matthew Sferrazza)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.archives.nd.edu/episodes/visitors/rhb/bensonm.htm
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Matthew,

Welcome to Librivox!

It is not obligatory, but we do recommend that new readers record a chapter or two in a group project first, before jumping into a solo ~ just so you can learn what is involved.

At the very least, we do request that you do a quick 1 minutes test to make sure your technical settings are all correct. You can find information on that here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test

Moving this to Book Suggestions to keep the Launch Pad Tidy.

Matthew, please at least do a quick test, and when you are ready to start on this, post in this thread, and it will be moved back to the Launch Pad.

Sorry about the lateness.

There's a sort of crackle that only appears in the uploaded file. It isn't in the recording I have. The file is a 128kbps .mp3 Mono-channel recording, so I'm not sure what I did wrong. So I need help with that, please. Moreover, in my recording, there is some echo so I'll make a small booth like the Wiki says.

Thank You,

Matthew

Hi Matthew,

I'm not hearing any crackle on my end. :-) It is a nice and clear recording!

There are a couple of things that need to be fixed.
First the bit rate is 116 kpbs and variable and we need it to be 128 kbps and Constant. If you are using Audacity, when you export the audio, there will be the option to set the bit rate settings.

Also, the volume is a bit low at 83.2 DB. We ask that it be between 86 and 92 DB - preferrably around 89 DB.
Again, if you are using audacity, here are some instructions on how to amplify: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Amplifying

If you could fix these two issues and reupload and post another test, that would be great!

Just to confirm, is this recording taken already?

If not, I would love to have it :)

Hi Thoria,

The reader has planned the project as a solo, but it has not been started. If you would like to record the book as well, feel free to start a new project in the launch pad. :-)
