About Frederick Burnaby (1842-1885):
A British army officer, and a bit of a rebel, Burnaby made several travels to places where people "just don't go," sometimes even after having been ordered not to go. However, his prowess as a fighter, good looks, and the books he published about his travels ensured him a welcome each time and an affectionate place in society.
