Section 67 PL okay; word-perfect!

How on earth did he manage to get half a person travelling?

Section 68; just one little correction to make.

16.22 'Bill,' says he, 'it'll be up with the watermen in no time.' I hear that as "I'll be up ..."

Thanks, Peter.
Weird, huh? I think perhaps children's fares were half the adult fare so it's really a question of number of 'full fares' paid for.

Just one correction to section 69
27.14 "... Cadogan-pier, Chelsea, Battersea-bridge, Hammersmith, and Kew." Repeat of "Cadogan Pier" after "Kew"

I wonder when Mayhew's "unfrequently" was changed to our "infrequently"?

PL notes on Section 70

0037 "... a partial notion of the magnitude of this mode of transit." "transport" read instead of "transit"
0759 "The Chelsea and Islingtons ... Piccadilly, Regent-street, Portland-road ..." read "Portland Street" instead of "Portland Road"
1127 "The average journey as regards length of each omnibus" Repeat of "as regards length"

Section 71 PL okay. For some reason, I've not been able to get into the magic window. I'll log the section status some time later, when I can get in.
EDIT: MW updated.

The French instructions were much better than ours; "persons who may drink, sing, or smoke (were not permitted) to remain in the carriages". I remember right through the early 1970's, the top deck of buses being thick with smoke, and littered with cigarette ends ... and drunks (the last including me at times)!

And I like the fact that, in the French system (and "very partially, on some of the London lines") you can transfer between routes to get to your destination ... on the same ticket.

EDIT: Section 72 PL okay.

Thanks, Peter.
Yes, really well organised. I suppose there were fewer lines so someone wishing to go SW if there were only N/S and E/W routes, for example, could be accommodated better.
There are so many connections between the UK and France throughout Mayhew's work, or especially between Paris and London.

Wait 'til you 'meet' the man who was driven by George IV to be!

Section 73 (27:32)
https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/londonlabour3_73_mayhew_128kb.mp3

Hackney-Coaches and Cabs Part 1, pages 347 - 350

For me Mayhew's 'chapter' headings are a bit off at this point, so I'm calling the next few sections "Hackney-Coaches and Cabs" with appropriate part numbers.

Section 74 (26:19)
https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/londonlabour3_74_mayhew_128kb.mp3

Hackney-Coaches and Cabs Part 1, page 350 (Introduction of Cabs) - page 354
(Section 75 starts with "Suggestions for Regulating the Trade.")
