PL note for Section 73:

2018 "... and, as is not uncommon with uninformed men ..." Read as "uniformed men" !

You're right about that hackney driver's story. The prince picked him up and threw him into the carriage!
... and .... "Then one season I used to drive Lord Barrymore in his rounds to the brothels--twice or thrice a-week sometimes ..."

Oops! That's one of those times where my original recording was correct but I had a touch of dyslexia during the editing process.

Edited section 73 is PL okay.

EDIT: Section 74 PL okay.
EDIT: Section 75 PL okay. It was odd to see that paragraph comparing the criminal tendencies of the various classes.

Brilliant. Thanks.

Section 77 coming soon. I'm hesitating about whether to split it into two or not, as it's over 47 minutes, but I think I'll go with it.
There's a section in it in 'Olde English' (or at least 'older' English) where Mayhew seemed to want to preserve the spelling so I spelled the appropriate words out. Please let me know if it sounds stupid, and if you have other suggestions. I could read the whole passage and then give all the spellings after it, or just forget about the spelling.

EDIT: Section 77 uploaded (47:47)

Thanks, Gill; I've not listened to your recording yet, but, for me, I'd try to read that stuff as if I were making an attempt to read Chaucer in the original, perhaps with just those terminal and near-terminal "e"'s pronounced.

I'll PL tomorrow and get back to you.

Gill,

PL notes for Section 77 The Carrying Trade

2620 "Prescriptive right, and the laws and by-laws of the corporation ..." Read as "rights" [I wouldn't have mentioned this, but if you're correcting others, you might tidy up this one.]
2710 "... what constitutes the business of a fellowship-porter." Read as "fellow porter"

Starting around 3003, the text mentions "p'sons" and "lib'ties". I think they would have been accepted written abbreviations at the time, but you'd probably not go wrong by pronouncing them in full.

There's a patch of background noise at 4530, towards the end of "For any load or parcel by knot or hand"

I've PM'd you about the "old English".

Sorry that section turned out to be a 'stonker'!

Edited Section 77 (46:14)
https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/londonlabour3_77_mayhew_128kb.mp3

2620 "Prescriptive right" was just the -t but a particularly aspirated one, perhaps. I've replaced it.
2710 "... what constitutes the business of a fellowship-porter." Replaced.
30:04 - 31:16 I've replaced the 'interestinge spellinge' section (leaving "p'sons" and "lib'ties" as they were).
"For any load or parcel by knot or hand" now starts at 43:56. I replaced the first part (to 44:14) and did some noise reduction on the rest of the recording. Let me know if there's still a problem.

Thanks for all that work, Gill. PL perfect following the corrections, except ..... and I'm sorry that I missed it on my first pass ... in "... many of them provinge shifters, lyvinge by cozeninge, stealinge ..." you've had them "lying and cozening", rather than "living by cozening" (33.58)

Change it or leave it, as you wish.

Section 77 PL okay!

We're rattling along. I've really got to settle to recording volume 1 again; you put me to shame.

I have a busy rest-of-the-week, though.

You've been doing lots of other things. I've had a lot of time on my hands. I could probably have had everything recorded by now if I'd really put my mind and voice to it!
