The College Freshman's Don't Book by George Fullerton Evans (Unknown - 1963) .

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/the-college-freshmans-dont-book-by-george-fullerton-evans/
A short, humorous guide of what not to do in your first year of college. (Summary by Jill Engle)
Volunteers outside the USA: George Fullerton Evans died in 1963. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, and Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955).
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text?
Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/42467
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Dedicated Proof Listener for this project is: sonnethaiku.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

(To find out more about ID3 tags, go to our wiki: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/What_is_ID3)
Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use – if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!

Title: # - [Section title] (This can be copied from the MW)
    Artist: George Fullerton Evans
Album: The College Freshman's Don't Book

Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.

Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.

(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: iq - icequeen
    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

OK, the MW is up and ready for action! Please note that because the number of sections is less than 10, the file numbers are only one digit. So instead of collegefreshmansdontbook_##_evans.mp3 , it should be collegefreshmansdontbook_#_evans.mp3

Let me know if you need anything else. We will stay here a couple of days, maybe we can catch us a DPL, or a whole bunch of readers!

Hi Ann!

Thanks so much for being my MC. I am going to work on the MW right now, I just logged in without a problem. I have a question for you: I would like to include the whole long "title" (I guess you would call it), the page that reads "in the interests of freshman at large...", in the first chapter when it is recorded. Would it be best to specify that in the During Recording intro notes? Or in the MW somehow? Thanks for your advice!

You could put it as a note in the MW, where you put the links to the text. Say something like, "Please read the full title of the book [then have whole title] in intro." The reader then should say, "Chapter 1 of The College Freshman's Don't Book. This is a Librivox recording... The College Freahsman's Don't Book in the interests of freshman at large..., by George Fullerton Evans, Chapter 1 [Title]." And make sure that you specify that to whomever picks up that section. The only 'problem' that might arise is for the readers of the other sections. Once the first section is read, I would delete that note for section 1. Some newbies might get confused and read the whole title for their section. I hope that helps, because I think that it is a good idea to have the whole title read in the first section. It needs to be there for full affect!

Another idea is you can claim Chapter 1 for yourself and do it the way you like. Then you won't have to explain it to other readers or remember to delete a note to avoid confusing folks.

I thought about that but didn't know if I wanted to claim a whole section since there are only seven altogether. Maybe, I will, though, since it's short. Thank you!
