Editorials from The Dial magazine, Volume 66 by Martyn Johnson ( - 1934).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/editorials-from-the-dial-magazine-volume-66-by-martyn-johnson/

Editorials published in Volume 66 of The Dial magazine, a fortnightly political and literary review. The source available to us features issues from January 11 to June 28, 1919. This volume illustrates the pacifist and socialist viewpoint of Martyn Johnson (the owner) and the magazine's staff. The magazine experienced financial troubles in 1919 and was sold later that year. The magazine was re-directed by its new investors in a direction that was essentially literary in nature and it is this 're-creation' of the magazine that is best known. (KevinS)
  1. Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/dialjournallitcrit66chicrich/page/n13/mode/1up
  2. Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Kevin,
I'd be happy to MC this for you. I'll get your MW set up. I'd also be happy to DPL, unless you have someone else in mind.

MaryAnn, I thought, unless you prefer otherwise, that I would post a note in this thread when I have groups of 10 editorials finished. They aren't very long and it seems silly to post 76 or so announcements in the thread, one for each.

What say you?

I hope you won't be bored. I find these interesting as they show a particular perspective at an interesting period of time.

Sections 1-6, 67-74 are PL OK.
Interesting stuff Kevin. Wish I had more a sense of their place in history to understand what's going on.

Thank you!

I could bore with a mini-lecture, but I won't.

I'm going to start filling in from Section 7 and downward now. I may have miscounted things and will need to place an editorial out-of-place in Section 75. All this is fine, as I purposely kept sections independent of each other, but it still bugs me. (Ya live and learn.)

MaryAnn, all done! (Well, I can hope so.)

I did need to use Section 75 because of my goof, so I went in and corrected the outro to Section 74. I've marked that section 'Ready for Spot Check' as it's just the last 5 seconds I removed. I'm sorry for the hassle.

Don't feel any need to rush with the PL; I'm very happy to be done with the recording and have no feelings of rush for the project to be cataloged. I guess I'm saying, don't worry about it.

I hope you enjoy what's left to hear. It's a little repetitive, but gives an interesting view of history.

Great Kevin. Congratulations!

I will work through them. Great thing is that they are short so I can fill time with them as I'm working on other stuff.
