Drinking Alone by Moonlight
by Li Bai (Li Po)

Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many Librivox volunteers as possible!

This week's poem can be found at: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/16500 (if you choose to read in English)
or at: http://www.afpc.asso.fr/wengu/wg/wengu.php?l=Tangshi&no=6 (if you choose to read in Chinese)

Here's a word from earthcalling on how to pronounce Li Bai.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are reading in English:

Begin by reading the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
Drinking Alone by Moonlight, by Li Bai, read for LibriVox.org by [your name]
Adding, if you wish, date, location, or your personal url.

Then the poem:
A cup of wine, under the flowering trees;
I drink alone, for no friend is near.
Raising my cup I beckon the bright moon,
For he, with my shadow, will make three men.
The moon, alas, is no drinker of wine;
Listless, my shadow creeps about at my side.
Yet with the moon as friend and the shadow as slave
I must make merry before the Spring is spent.
To the songs I sing the moon flickers her beams;
In the dance I weave my shadow tangles and breaks.
While we were sober, three shared the fun;
Now we are drunk, each goes his way.
May we long share our odd, inanimate feast,
And meet at last on the Cloudy River of the sky.
At the End say:

End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.
Please leave a few seconds of silence at the end of your recording.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are reading in Chinese, note that all Chinese dialects are welcome.

Begin by reading the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
月下独酌,李白。
这是 [你的姓名]为 LibriVox 点 org 提供的录音。
Adding, if you wish, date, location, or your personal url.

Then the poem: http://www.afpc.asso.fr/wengu/wg/wengu.php?l=Tangshi&no=6

At the End say:

完。LibriVox 的录音都是公众所有的。
Please leave a few seconds of silence at the end of your recording.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Save your recording as an mp3 file using the following filename and ID3 tag format:

File name - all in lowercase: drinkingalone_li_[your initials].mp3

ID-3 tags:
Title: Drinking Alone by Moonlight - Read by [YOUR INITIALS]
Artist: Li Bai
Album: LibriVox Weekly Poetry
Comments: (optional) Recorded by [your name]

Please be sure that your recording software is set to the following technical specifications:
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44100 kHz

So... let's see if I got it all.

Hi!
This is my first recording, so I hope it's alright (in format and the reading itself).
It's a beautiful poem, by the way!

so, here you go. :oops:

And as I am not in the Catalogue yet: my inicials are ljb and my full name Laila J. Balke - no URL right now. (Can that be changed at some point?)

x Laila

Looks good! The recording felt slightly muffled on my speakers, but nowhere near enough to be distracting or to impair the hearing.

I've entered you into the catalogue, and yes, we can add a url later on if you get one. :)

David
That sounds so cool! I'll have to trust you proof-listened the first half of that properly. :D

I was going to comment on the fact that it was twice as long as the two English versions I've had so far... but then you did it again in English. :)

Thanks for entering me! Haha I'm excited!
And I'll see if I can do something about the muffled quality, thanks!

P.S.: David: Wow, I never actually considered Chinese a particulary sexy language before - you made me reconsider! :-P

Got it, thanks. Would you like to be listed as Jim Giddings in the catalogue, or some other way? And do you have a url you'd like to be linked to?

Thanks! and, yes,
Jim Giddings is how I'd like to be identified rather than by my userid.
I guess the best url to list is http://www.halfredhouse.biz/wordpress/
and my initials are JLG

Thanks for coordiating this
