Hi! I'm Jordan (he/him), I'm new here and I'm so excited to be here! Every new thing I find out about librivox makes it seem more fun and accessible to volunteer here and I'm impatient to get started (but I AM going to wait till payday so I can get a real mic first.) Also, I just realized that The Great Gatsby will go into the US public domain in just a few months, and I don't know if I can call dibs or something but it's one of my absolute favorites and I would love to do it! I'm also excited though because scrolling through the projects I saw a lot of stuff I'm NOT familiar with at all that sounds interesting, so I love that I will get to experience new stuff by volunteering here too! Uhhhhh I'm not sure what else should go here? I was an English teacher for several years and I'm so glad that instead I now do a quiet monotonous job that allows me to listen to librivox while I work! I just finished listening to Dracula today for the Halloween season (though my wife and I are pretty goth, it's kind of always the Halloween season at our place!)

[edit] Actually, I have a question, too. Like I said above, I don't have everything I need to start recording just yet, but I will soon, so is it okay if I sign up for something in advance so I can start as soon as I get my mic this weekend? (I'll do the trial recording first too, of course!)

Welcome Jordan and what a unique forum name! Goth, eh? How cool is that!! I've made a little video to welcome people; It has some basic info about us that I thought might be helpful to know right at the start. In any case ask lots of questions, we are a helpful bunch here and you will fit right in.

7 STEPS TO RECORDING FOR LIBRIVOX Eager to get started? This video will walk you though the steps from just starting all the way to recording your first section. And get you recording quickly!! This video has links to instructions you might need.

As to your question, yes, you can claim sections in advance but understand that you should not record them until you have received your OK on your 1 minute test which is your technical specs. (see the second video for details). Keep asking questions and dive in.
