Sonnet 38 from The Growth of Love by Robert Bridges (1844 - 1930).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/sonnet-38-from-the-growth-of-love-by-robert-bridges/
This is the weekly poem for August 9th, 2020.

Robert Bridges (1844 - 1930) was the English Poet Laureate from 1913 until his death. A physician by training, he retired from practice in 1882 and devoted the remainder of his life to literary pursuits.

This poem comes from 1898 edition of a sonnet collection entitled the Growth of Love. ( Algy Pug)
Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This week's poem can be found here.

Have questions on "how"?
Check LV's Recording Notes thread before recording. If this is your first recording, you'll also find this Newbie Guide to Recording useful.
Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
Sonnet 38 from The Growth of Love by Robert Bridges, read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal url.]
Then read the poem:
An idle June day on the sunny Thames,
Floating or rowing as our fancy led,
Now in the high beams basking as we sped,
Now in green shade gliding by mirror'd stems;
By lock and weir and isle, and many a spot
Of memoried pleasure, glad with strength and skill,
Friendship, good wine, and mirth, that serve not ill
The heavenly Muse, tho' she requite them not:

I would have life—thou saidst—all as this day,
Simple enjoyment calm in its excess,
With not a grief to cloud, and not a ray
Of passion overhot my peace to oppress;
With no ambition to reproach delay,
Nor rapture to disturb its happiness.

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording.
Save your recording as an mp3 file using the following filename and ID3 tag format:
File name - all in lowercase: sonnet38_bridges_your initials_128kb.mp3

ID3 tags (Version 2.30): ID Tags are completed during Cataloging

Hello! I can't find the right MC. This is my first project, so I could just be looking in the wrong place... :)

While this project is being set up you could contribute a poem to the Short poetry Project:

The weekly poem is akin to being invited for Sunday tea with one's friends.
