Hello Michele,

I stumbled on this story ('The Shrine of Love' by Lady Dilke) when I was looking for something completely different. I don't want to read it myself, but I thought I would pass it on in case you're collecting possible sources for future collections. If not, then please ignore it!

The Miracle is PL OK. Oi weh! Mine heart!, among the best love stories I've ever heard, and magnificently performed. Great job, Rita.

PL Notes :The Last Adventure of a Coquette

12:16 the artist himself, a fine looking youth, phrase in bold is missing. It isn't critical info so could be left out. Your choice.

Thanks Colleen. A cute story, read with expressive flair, and PL OK. Men, you better watch out for those pretty coquettes!

Thank you! It was a sort of random stumble-across kinda thing, that stuck in my head and I thought it would be perfect for a love story collection.

Indeed it was. Hope you stumble across some more love stories! Based on IA "views" of the 3 previous collections, ranging from 34 - 74,000 views, they are a very popular collection.

Thanks Michelle! I did enjoy this one. It reminded me of the wonderful stories of Isaac Bashevis Singer, who I read a great deal of when I was younger.

PL Notes Cordelia

Unique view of slum life romance in . . . I'm guessing, Britain? Babies, babies everywhere. Nothing like I've ever experienced.
Just a few notes:

30:25 when her prince spoke his lines, you say priest
31:55 Let him leave me be, then. Cordelia, you say leave him be
33:50 that he did not fully join her in blaming, you say joining

Thanks for your observations and comments. I have made the corrections and upped the tempo by +10.

No, not Britain, but New York City! In fact, I found that "The Barracks" where Cordelia lived is a historical building as mentioned here
By the mid 1840's, the first actual tenement houses were built. One of the worst was the Barracks on the Lower East Side. The building ran 125 feet along Mangin Street and extended 300 feet through the block to the next street. The apartments consisted of combination living room‐kitchens facing the street or a narrow courtyard and one or two bedrooms without any windows at all. Rents were $3 to $6 a month.

The Barracks had running water, but it was available only at sinks in the public halls. Half a dozen families washed their hands, cleaned food, and did laundry here. The toilets were in the central courtyard. They weren't connected to any sewers. There weren't any in the neighborhood yet. The filth was unspeakable. Tenants used chamberpots, which they emptied into the street or the courtyard itself. Over 1,100 people lived in the Barracks.

Cordelia is PL OK. I like the quicker tempo! "The Barracks" doesn't sound like "the American dream" immigrants yearned to find when they came here. It's a bit like a Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman movie, Far and Away, with many scenes of inner city life around that time.
