I'm uploading my 1 minute test. I'm using Audacity as my editing software and CAD audio u37. It's a USB microphone. I'm also using windows software.

Sounds great! There are a couple of technical issues, but they're easily sorted.

* The file is a stereo audio while LibriVox submissions need to be mono. You can fix this by highlighting the whole track (click in the grey area to the left of the waveform where the volume and balance sliders are) then on the Tracks menu select Mix then Mix Stereo Down to Mono.

* The audio is on the quiet side - it's important, particularly with a book featuring multiple narrators, to keep the loudness consistent in order to save the listener adjusting the volume each track. The quick fix here is to amplify by 4.5dB (select the whole track as above then choose Amplify from the Effect panel). Of course, this is only useful if your own recording volume doesn't vary much. A better solution is to install the free ReplayGain plugin and use that - there's a page on ReplayGain on the wiki: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=ReplayGain

* The MP3 encoding rate isn't the LibriVox standard. In the options on the Save As MP3 dialogue box, make sure you select Constant bit rate, Joint Stereo (even though it's mono!) and 128kbps.

If you do all that then reupload (I suggest calling it test_madhatteralice2 so as not to overwrite the first one) someone can check that it now meets the standard.

Cheers,
Paul

Nice work, Ally. On the basis of that I'd say you're good to go. Note that when you're doing 'proper' chapters you'll need to insert a bit of silence at the start and finish - usually 0.5-1s at the start and 5s at the end.

Looking forward to hearing your first sections!
