Hi Adam

I reviewed your test, and some changes are needed. LibriVox requires audio that is 128kb constant bit rate, mono, and between 86db and 92db, preferably 89-90. Your sample is 109kb variable bit rate, and 85.2db.

When exporting your MP3 from Audacity, be sure to first check Bit Rate Mode - Constant, then select 128kb from the pull-down menu, and check Force Export to Mono. Raise the input volume on your mic about 4db, or amplify your recording by that amount before exporting.

You can verify your audio yourself by downloading the free Checker app: https://cgjennings.ca/projects/checker/

Please record a new test with the same file name and post it as a reply. I will meander by and review it for you.

Thanks for that, really useful app for getting things done. Just to clarify, do you want me to re-export the original audio or just re-record it?

You can just re-export the same one with the correct settings.
