Seamless Edits: Help! [Split from the Audacity Problem thread]
I am so frustrated! I have gone over and over the editing videos and they keep saying "put you cursor at the start of what you want to replace and click the record button". Everytime I do that it jumps to the end of the track and starts recording more...the videos say it will create a second track at the point I want to correct a word, but my Audacity doesn't do that and it is a current version. HELP!

The newest version (or two) of Audacity did change that functionality.
Hold the Shift key down while clicking the Record button. That should do it.

Do the hot keys still work the same? It was R to record a new track and shift-R to append at the end of the track.

I don't use the hot keys, but going into the preferences, it looks like these have been switched around: R records at the end of the track, Shift-R to a new track.

Okay - thanks! Another reason to stick with the version I'm using.

Audacity: if you don't like the user interface, download the next version. (innocent look)

I always add a new mono track when I start editing, (I know I'm going to need it!!) then when I need to re-record something, put the cursor into the new track, select "solo", redo the wrong bit, copy and paste into the original.... always remembering to delete the original error ! I find that this way I only need to hit R to start recording at the point of the cursor...Anne F

You can edit the hot keys to whatever you want them to be. I've changed so many of the default hot keys in my Audacity to my personal preferences that I'm not able to answer questions like yours as I have no idea what the default was!
