"The Intimate Strangers", by Booth Tarkington (1869 - 1946)
"Beginning with the girl of yesterday and a lawyer of uncertain age, stranded in a railway station, half starved and uncertain of the future, because a hurricane wrecked railway hopes on both the main and branch line, it carries the audience to the home of the girl, where, with delicious comedy, the blasé lawyer is tortured into submission, after he has dared doubt the age of the girl whose hand he kissed the night before.

Having expressed a sharp opinion of "brazen young huzzies in breeches," he is subjected to the siege of a young woman "in breeches", who longs for an adventure with an elderly man."

THE STATION-MASTER - alanmapstone
Not only the Station-Master, but also the ticket-agent, telegraph operator, baggage-man, and janitor; but he wears no uniform except a cap. He is elderly and smooth-shaven; his clothes are elderly, too; though not shabby.

WILLIAM AMES - ToddHW
A big city lawyer. He is "somewhere in the early forties" but not yet "well-preserved" looking. People of sixty would speak of him as "a young man" ; people of sixteen would of course think him of an advanced age. He is urban, intelligent looking, a "man of the world"; very "attractive".

ISABEL STUART - EltonTheSnowman
She is of a lovely and charming presence; one is aware of that instantly though she is pretty thoroughly muffled in furs and veils in the opening scene.

FLORENCE - jennlea
A girl of nineteen. She is distractingly pretty, in spite of or it may be partly because of her general style and costume.

JOHNNIE WHITE - OPEN
A boy of about twenty.

HENRY - OPEN
A house-servant in working-clothes.

AUNT ELLEN - Availle
An "old lady," for she is undeniably both; and with her cap, and old-fashioned gown, rather suggests Whistler's portrait of his mother. She is dainty, but rather fretful.

MATTIE - OPEN
A middle-aged woman. She is neat and responsible looking; but more of the housekeeper type than a "maid"

STAGE DIRECTIONS - wib66

DPL - ADKreader1122

The Station-Master's treatment of that big-city lawyer reminds me somewhat of the way the denizens of Green Acres used to treat Mister Douglas.
