Pray You, Sir, Whose Daughter?, by Helen H. Gardener (1853 - 1925)
Twenty-year-old Gertrude Foster has had the sheltered upbringing typical of women of her class. Yet, she questions the restrictive norms with which she has been raised and does not wish to marry a man who will not see her as an equal.

Gertrude receives a rude awakening to the state of society when she is brought face to face with poverty in her community, and she is further disturbed when she learns of shocking age of consent legislation being discussed in the state assembly. Her concerns hit close to home after she befriends two working-class girls. (Summary by Scarbo)

I'd like to be my own DPL, if I may, except for any chapters I record myself.

Hi Amy,

Might I claim Section 0? This sounds very interesting, and when I saw at the end of the Preface it was written by Elizabeth Cady Statton, it made sense. One question if I get this: In the MW you spell Olive's last name "Schreiner", but in Gutenberg, it is spelled "Schreener" which would be two different pronunciations. Which would your prefer?

Thanks,

Wayne

You may certainly claim section 0, thank you for claiming!

This text has a number of OCR errors and typos, including "Schreener." The actual name of the writer in question is Schreiner, so that's the pronunciation I'd prefer. Thanks for checking about that!

Thank you for section 0 - it sounds great! I have just two notes:

- At 1:21, could you include the dedication that's just after the Schreiner epigraph?
- At 10:55, "sad end," you say "sad life."

Chapter 2 is all yours, thank you for claiming! Before you record it, I would strongly suggest completing a 1-minute test first. It's not an audition, it's just to make sure that your tech specs are set up correctly and to check for any sound problems.

Could you also let me know what name you'd like to appear under in the catalog?

Welcome to LV, and feel free to ask if you have questions about anything! :)
