Then I saved, supposedly overwriting the file of the same name. If there is a different process that will do what I need it to. Thanks.

It's still 94.6dB.
Open the file. Highlight the audio. Effect>Amplify>-5>OK. Visible difference in the track. That all seems to be fine. Your word choice 'saved' concerned me.

File>Export>Export as MP3>Choose the file location>Save. You should see a pop up as the program is doing it's thing.

It’s the weekend after a holiday—no hurry! If you’re serious about doing as many as I like, I’d like to finish the book. Is that too presumptuous? It’s such a compelling story that I want to see it through.
