Hi Piotrek81, You can rest assured that you never recorded this entry before, for the SNF during my tenure as BC. I assuredly would have remembered the name from its incredible association with--believe it or not--marshmallows dipped in caramel! The first entry for "Modjeska" in Wikipedia says this: "A Modjeska is a confection consisting of marshmallow dipped in caramel. It was created in the 1880s in Louisville, Kentucky by confectioner Anton Busath (1845-1908) to honor Shakespearean actress Helena Modjeska, who was performing there in the US debut production of Ibsen's A Doll's House." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modjeska_(confection)

Thanks for this! Listening to the provisions of the 1890 act, what struck me first and foremost was simply that Congress should have included an provision for inflation! A $5000 fine would be nothing today. I'm currently recording an article for Rapunzelina's National Geographic collection describing an expedition to Franz Josef Land and decided to take a look at what the Encyclopedia Britannica has to say about the place. Here's the result

I contributed one Whitehead essay a few collections back where he makes an argument for the popularity of weird fiction in the marketplace and how it isn't being served by the leading publications. Whitehead himself penned quite a few seminal pieces of weird fiction over the years, using as a basis for many of them the local folklore and superstitions of the West Indies where he dwelled for many years. Here's an essay from him discussing many of those beliefs and how they have spread over time in the Virgin Islands and elsewhere in the Caribbean.
