Please find my test recording here: https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/librivox_test_recording_joshua_shinavier_2023-12-07.mp3. By the way, if anyone is interested in recording William James's Principles of Psychology with me, let me know! I will start with existing collaborative projects and see how that goes, first.

Looking at the other submissions, I might have misunderstood the instructions. Here is another recording with the "Peter Piper" text rather than the William James: https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/librivox_test_recording_2_joshua_shinavier_2023-12-07.mp3. Thanks!

Hi Joshua,

Your voice is clear and animated and sounds perfect for reading. However, the volume is too low at 83.1 dB. The Librivox standard is between 86 and 92, with the ideal being 89-90 dB. There's also a fair amount of background noise; not enough to seriously impair the reading, but noticeable.

You'll need to increase the volume and resubmit your recording. If you're using Audacity, you can accomplish this using "Effects > Loudness Normalization," with "perceived loudness" set to -19LUFS (just click "Apply"). You can also reduce the background noise by selecting a portion of silence at the end of your track (room noise only), going to "Effects > Noise Reduction" and clicking "Get Noise Profile." Then select the whole track, go back to "Effects > Noise Reduction" and click "OK." Do the volume adjustment before you do the noise reduction.

Please carry out those changes and re-upload this test. I'll come back and have another listen (and then likely approve your test).

Thanks,
Winnifred
